The basics of football and cheerleading

Our Mission
Providing a quality youth athletic experience since 2000, New Albany Youth Football League’s (NAYFL) mission is to teach the youth of New Albany and surrounding communities the fundamentals of tackle football, flag football or the skills to cheer. This instructional league is designed to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, safety, balanced competition and the respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, parents, and the community. All participants are guaranteed playing time under the league’s constitution with a great deal of emphasis placed on your child’s safety & well being.

Who Is Eligible
Boys and girls entering grades K–6 are eligible to participate. Cheerleading for flag football is open to girls entering grades K–1. Cheerleading for tackle football is open to girls entering grades 2-6. Flag football is for boys and girls in grades K-5. Tackle football has two divisions: the junior division (grades 3-4) and the senior division (grades 5-6).

How to Register
Online Registration: 5/18 - 7/25
After 7/25, all registrations will be charged an extra $25.

NAYFL Offerings
Flag Football

  • Registration Window: 5/18 - 7/22
  • K-1 Maroon division (Tuesdays and Sundays)
  • Grade 2-3 Gold division (Mondays and Sundays)
  • Grades 4-5 Eagle division (Thursdays and Sundays)
  • Grades 6-7 Black division (Wednesdays and Sundays)
  • Mandatory Evaluation Day: August 10th
  • Practices start August 12th, Games start August 25th, Season ends October 13th
  • Cost: $125 - Black Division is $150

Transition Program (Flag Football to Tackle Football)

  • Registration Window: TBD
  • Properly prepare kids for the transition to tackle or help them make a better, more educated decision as to whether they want to play tackle football
  • Open to flag football participants in grades 2-5
  • Fee: TBD
  • Tentative schedule: TBD

Cheerleading for Flag Football

  • Registration Window: 5/18 - 7/25
  • Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level K-1
  • Will cheer every Sunday at 1:00pm during the flag football season for a Flag Team
  • Cheer fees include: Cheer Camp, T Shirt & pom poms.  Cheer Camp will be held August 5th-8th in the 2/5 gym.
  • Cheer season begins July 29 & 30 with uniform fittings. First practice will be Thursday August 1st.  Practices will be held every Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm during cheer season.
  • Cost: $125 (Additional cost: Cheer uniform if needed)

Cheerleading for Tackle Football

  • Registration Window: 5/18 - 7/25
  • Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level 2-6
  • Will cheer every Saturday at Bevelhymer Park during the tackle football season
  • Cheer fees include: Cheer Camp, T Shirt & pom poms.  Cheer Camp will be held August 5th-8th in the 2/5 gym.
  • Cheer season begins July 29 & 30 with uniform fittings. First practice will be Thursday August 1st.  Practices will be held every Tuesday & Thursday at 6:00 pm during cheer season.
  • Cost: $125  (Additional cost: Cheer uniform if needed)

Tackle Football

  • Registration Window: 5/18 - 7/25
  • Evaluations will be held for this division during the week of July 29th – August 1st from 6p-8p. 
  • The tackle football team draft will be in early August and coaches will notify their players immediately following the draft
  • Tackle football practices begin the second week in August
  • Games will begin late August and will the season will end in late October
  • Games will be played at Bevelhymer Park
  • Cost: $250

Tackle football practices are held at Bevelhymer Park.
Tackle football games take place at Bevelhymer Park.
Flag football games are held at Bevelhymer Park.
